Athletic Therapy focuses on preventing, assessing and rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries. Our Certified Athletic Therapists work with active individuals and athletes at recreational, competitive and high-performance levels.
Care combines injury assessment, hands-on treatment, exercise and reconditioning to help you return to sport, work and everyday activity.

Your plan progresses from managing the injury to rebuilding strength, mobility and the capacity needed for your activity.
INJURY ASSESSMENT
A detailed musculoskeletal assessment looks at your injury, movement, strength, mobility and function to help determine an appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plan.
MANUAL THERAPY & TREATMENT
Treatment may include soft tissue techniques, joint mobilization, stretching and other hands-on approaches to address pain, mobility and physical function.
ACTIVE REHABILITATION
Exercise-based rehabilitation focuses on restoring mobility, strength, stability and movement while progressively increasing your physical capacity.
MOVEMENT & BIOMECHANICS
Movement patterns and biomechanics can be assessed to identify factors that may contribute to injury or affect how you perform during work, exercise or sport.
STRENGTH, CONDITIONING & RECONDITIONING
Rehabilitation can progress beyond basic exercises into strength, power, agility, conditioning and other physical demands required for your activity or sport.
TAPING, BRACING & INJURY PREVENTION
Athletic Therapists may use taping, bracing, protective strategies and individualized exercise to support injury management and help reduce the risk of re-injury.
Athletic Therapists are trained to support athletes throughout the injury process, from prevention and on-site care when an injury occurs, through assessment, rehabilitation and reconditioning, to a progressive return to training and competition.
ON-SITE SPORT & TEAM COVERAGE
Athletic Therapists can work directly with athletes and sport teams during practices, games, tournaments and competitions, providing injury prevention, assessment and immediate care when injuries occur.
EMERGENCY & ACUTE INJURY CARE
Athletic Therapists are trained in emergency and field-of-play care. They can assess and manage acute injuries on site, recognize when further medical attention is required and help determine the appropriate next steps.
INJURIES & CONDITIONS WE TREAT
Sprains • Muscle strains • Joint injuries • Tendon injuries • Overuse injuries • Acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries • Sport-related injuries • Repetitive strain injuries • Post-fracture and post-surgical rehabilitation
REHABILITATION & RECONDITIONING
Rehabilitation progresses from restoring movement, mobility and strength to more demanding exercise, conditioning and sport-specific activities based on your individual goals and physical demands.
RETURN TO SPORT & PLAY
Returning to sport involves more than simply being pain-free. Strength, movement, functional testing, conditioning and sport-specific demands can be progressively assessed to help determine readiness to return to training and competition.
At Momentum SportMed, Athletic Therapy combines clinical assessment and rehabilitation with an understanding of movement, biomechanics and the physical demands of sport. Our approach is built around helping you recover from injury, rebuild physical capacity and return confidently to the activities and level of performance that matter to you.
EXPERIENCE FROM RECREATIONAL TO ELITE SPORT
Our Athletic Therapy experience spans recreational and university sport through national, international and Olympic-level competition. This experience brings an understanding of the demands athletes face during training, competition, travel and recovery.
MOVEMENT, BIOMECHANICS & PERFORMANCE
Assessment and rehabilitation consider how you move and the physical demands of your activity. Strength, mobility, movement mechanics and biomechanics can be incorporated to help restore function and support performance.
ACTIVE REHABILITATION & RECONDITIONING
Rehabilitation doesn't stop when symptoms improve. Programs can progress into strength, power, agility, conditioning and sport-specific movements to rebuild the physical capacity required for your activity or sport.
INTEGRATED SPORT MEDICINE CARE
Athletic Therapy can work alongside physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care and other healthcare professionals. When appropriate, our team can collaborate to provide different perspectives on your injury, rehabilitation and return to activity.
Athletic Therapy is a distinct healthcare service and is not billed as Physiotherapy. Appointments are billed under Athletic Therapy, and coverage varies between extended health benefit plans. We recommend checking your individual insurance policy to confirm that Athletic Therapy services provided by a Certified Athletic Therapist are included in your coverage.
Depending on your injury, sport and return-to-activity goals, Athletic Therapy may also work alongside other services at Momentum SportMed, including Physiotherapy, Sport & Deep Tissue Massage, Chiropractic Care and Custom Bracing & Orthotics.
